- 3GSM shows that this year most smartphones will have the ability (either shipped or via software download) to use VoIP in WLAN and 3G environments. And more (while Skype is of course here) global providers are emerging.
- ACCESS/Palmsource is producing first real fruits.
- A lot of promising announcements that (potentially) facilitate global unified platforms for application developers. A global IM network supported by carriers (supposedly with global user authentication, hopefully with encryption support and hopefully also useful as application data transport). Unified game development platform. First AJAX-like developments - based on Opera browser and on J2ME. And LBS development program from Autodesk.
