- It seems that major announcements related to 3GSM World Congress are already issued during this week so check the news below to get a picture of things to be present there
- The essence of announcements is in emerging of open communications platforms based on IP connectivity - from voice calls to open source enterprise push messaging systems, with more and more wide area data network deployments. Network deployments meanwhile mean not necessarily an offer from a carrier/operator. Google and Skype joined venture companies to finance a startup that aggregates - in true p2p effort - individual WLAN networks into a global offering.
- Comverse introduced value-added SMS services center that allows ads auto-insert as well as message forwarding (similar to call forwarding that is taken for granted now).
- More and more cheaper and more powerful phone platforms and reference designs. One of more astonishing ones is a smart phone design (that is with multimedia and Java) with bill of materials under 20$. Now commoditisation sounds as quite a reality for both handset makers and carriers. Well, it's though almost a heaven for developers - with cheap ubiquitous IP networking present and every handset being able to download and run software (at least in J2ME). Now just introduce a unified secured messaging protocol - and mobile applications should multiply as fast as numbers of mobile subscribers.
- Motorola offers m-Wallet application.
- Sony Ericsson announces innovative Symbian-based phones.
- Quite an activity in venture investments - with Finnish companies in focus.
